FACULTY & STAFF
Robert Hill graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College with a degree in elementary education. He subsequently attained a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. He taught in Lutheran elementary, junior high and high schools. Following a five year missionary period in the Czech Republic he moved to Texas where he taught in a charter school and public schools until Living Word Academy opened in 2011. Since that time he has served as teacher and principal there.
Mr. Hill enjoys a life-long hobby of woodworking and builds Adirondack furniture in his spare time. He also enjoys hunting and fishing which he never seems to have enough time to do.
Marlene Hill graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota with a degree in elementary education. Following graduation she began teaching in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. After her second year of teaching she married Robert and they moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin where she continued teaching until the call of being home with their five children drew her to stay at home and nurture them. When the youngest started school she returned to the classroom and has been teaching again ever since.
She has had the opportunity to teach in several different schools in Wisconsin, Michigan, the Czech Republic, and now here in Texas. Living Word Academy is beginning it seventh year of existence and teaching students from first grade through high school has been a welcome challenge and learning experience. Just as we teach the students to be life-long learners, what better example can we set!
Outside the classroom Marlene enjoys walking and gardening. She has recently found joy in making personal greeting cards for all occasions.
Jean Golladay is a graduate of the University of Houston, concentrating in languages. She has a BA in French with a minor in Spanish. She was the recipient of a lifetime membership to Pi Delta Phi, a national French honor society, and of a teaching fellowship awarded by the university to live for a year in France teaching English to French high school students. This she did, in a high school just to the north of Paris, and ended up staying in France for several years following the school year. In recent years, Jean completed a graduate course in French children’s and adolescent’s literature.
Throughout her life Jean has been involved in many artistic pursuits as well. Years of piano and vocal study led her to pursue performing in the Houston area where she grew up, and in Paris as well. She was a member of the Choeur d’Oratorio de Paris, as well as the Barry Hayward Consort’s vocal ensemble, performing renditions of early music, the Houston Masterworks Chorus, and the Houston Symphony Chorus. In Paris, she also worked for a private language company, and performed as a freelance vocalist, teaching voice and English on the side.
After three and a half enriching years, Jean returned from France and met her future husband Richard at a church in Houston. They were married and had two beautiful children, a girl and a boy. Choosing to homeschool their children, Jean found great joy in leading growing minds to knowledge, preferring traditional and classical curricula. With one in college, and one a rising senior, Jean is looking forward to the opportunity to bring the love of learning to her students at Living Word Academy. In her spare time, Jean loves teaching French, enjoying great literature and art, spending time with her family and four cats, staying fit, and playing tennis.
